Spiritual Development:
Monthly Devotion:
I recently visited a woman who had been on bedrest in the hospital for several weeks. She described her first time getting up – sitting on the edge of the bed, then standing briefly, but hardly standing as she had no strength of her own and felt herself being completely supported by her helpers.
As I reflected on her physical experience, I found it to be a wonderful description of our spiritual reality. Just as she was dependent on those who lifted her, we are dependent on God. He nudges us out of our comfortable places and invites us to lean on Him as we move through the day.
As parish nurses, we cannot do the work that we are called to do in our own strength, but we can, supported by the One who calls, equips and empowers us.
Go ahead ... let go ... feel God's strength. He's got you!
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Ps. 73:26
Annette Langdon, Parish Nurse, Calvary Lutheran Church, Golden Valley, MN
We encourage Parish Nurses to submit devotions of 200-300 words written specifically with Parish Nurses in mind. Please email them to mjhallberg@gloriadeistpaul.org or ktreat@luthersem.edu. The Communications Committee selects those printed.
